Celebrating Global Learning at Morganton Day School
At Morganton Day School, we believe education should open doors not only to knowledge but to the world. One of the many ways we set our students apart is through our exceptional world language program, which begins earlier and goes deeper than in most schools. Our students start learning Spanish at age three and continue their studies each year, building skills steadily so that by the time they complete 8th grade, they are confidently speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish.
Language learning at MDS is more than vocabulary and grammar; it opens the door to greater cultural understanding. Working with our outstanding Spanish teacher, Sra. Barbosa, each year, students explore a different Spanish-speaking country and discover their rich traditions, music, history, geography, and even current geopolitical issues. This immersive approach helps students connect language to real people and real places, fostering curiosity, empathy, and global awareness.
The highlight of this journey is our schoolwide Cultural Pavilion, where students proudly share what they have learned with parents, classmates, and friends. This special event transforms learning into a celebration, giving students an authentic audience and a chance to showcase their knowledge.
At a time when many schools are reducing or eliminating foreign language instruction, Morganton Day School stands head and shoulders above by preparing students for higher education and meaningful engagement in an increasingly interconnected world.
Be sure to join us as we celebrate language and culture with a spotlight on the vibrant nation of the Dominican Republic. It promises to be an inspiring event you won’t want to miss!
