Founded in 1978, Morganton Day School (MDS) serves children from Junior-Kindergarten 3 to 8th Grade. With low teacher to student ratios and a dedication to students' success, MDS provides a superior education that is academically rigorous, future-focused, confidence building and action oriented.

Mission: At Morganton Day School we inspire a community of learners through inquiry to achieve educational excellence.

Academics: Our I.B. curriculum encourages both personal development and academic achievement by challenging students to think critically, to ask questions, and think across disciplines. An IB education fosters diversity, curiosity, and a healthy appetite for learning. In turn, rigorous academics in a supportive caring environment (including a strong focus on science and technology), provides students the foundation needed to be successful as they matriculate through higher education.

Limited Enrollment: With students engaging in inquiry-based learning daily, MDS student enrollment is intentionally limited. Annual enrollment of approximately 120 students in grades JK3-8 supports student engagement in a hands-on, minds-on learning experience.

Daily Enrichment: Art, PE, Spanish, and Music not only encourage students to learn beyond the pages of a book, they also help develop curiosity allowing students to see the world in new ways and access creative ways of knowing.

International Baccalaureate Programme: With the globalization of our world, the IB Programme provides students with the opportunity to experience internationalism. Click here for a further explanation of the ideals that underpin all IB programmes, communicating what lies at the heart of an IB education.

Faculty and Staff: Our faculty and staff members are caring, compassionate educators and individuals with a variety of backgrounds and degrees. It is the goal of every faculty member to provide a superior education for every child.

Integrated S.T.E.A.M. and Maker Education Curriculum: As part of our IB Programme and educational philosophy of constructivism, S.T.E.A.M. integrates the study of science, technology, engineering, and math. Constructivism is a well-established theory of learning that incorporates learners as co-constructors of knowledge. The S.T.E.A.M. and Maker Ed program, provides students with the opportunity to discover their passion for science and experience the design process while competing at the state level in engineering competitions.

Campus: We are located in the heart of Morganton and within walking distance to downtown and many community venues. Our facilities provide comfortable spaces for inquiry and learning.
