Celebrating the Arts
Confidence, perseverance, creativity, empathy, open-mindedness, leadership, perspective, and communication. These are valuable life skills learned through the arts!
Learning music prepares students for life-long success and provides a perfect avenue for student expression! Throughout the year, students learn various instrument families, illustrate music, learn to read musical notes, explore concepts of rhythm, and connect music with their classroom units of inquiry. Middle school students may also participate in a music intensive where they compose their own songs, learn piano or guitar skills, or become part of a school band. All students participate in various performances throughout the year, culminating with a yearly musical performance in the spring.
Visual art is also a powerful mode of self-expression. It is a unique avenue through which students can deepen their understanding of concepts experienced daily. Throughout the years at MDS, students explore a variety of media, develop their own personal skills, and learn about famous artists and art history. It's exciting to see their creative process evolve and mature over time. Middle School students have an opportunity to take their learning deeper through a visual arts intensive. Annually, we are proud to present the creative artwork of our students.
In May, students take center stage for a musical performance of "The Best Little Theater in Town." Wander into Wonder before and after the show to experience a beautiful display of student artwork. As inquirers, MDS students are balanced, and a wonderful avenue for finding this balance is through the arts. Come celebrate the arts with us!
