Welcome Back to an Exciting Start to the New Year!

As we begin 2026, our classrooms are already buzzing with curiosity, creativity, and purposeful learning. January and February bring exciting learning experiences, reflecting a distinctive IB MDS education.

One of our most anticipated winter events is Science Night, where families are invited to support and celebrate student learning. Our middle school students proudly present their Future City project, showcasing critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovative design as they envision a city of the future. At the same time, our lower school and JK students are actively engaged in hands-on science classes, focusing on chemistry, where they will explore concepts through age-appropriate experiments that spark wonder and discovery. Science Night is a wonderful example of how learning at MDS is rigorous, joyful, and strengthened through family involvement.

Additionally, Sra. Barbosa and the students are busy preparing for the Cultural Pavilion, our immersive and interdisciplinary learning experience. This year, students are diving deep into the culture, government, customs, and history of the Dominican Republic, developing global awareness and a deeper appreciation for diverse perspectives. What makes the Cultural Pavilion unique is its intentional integration across disciplines. Students express their learning through visual and performance arts, while our second-grade PE class brings culture to life as they learn and perform a traditional Dominican dance. This rich, hands-on approach allows students to connect knowledge, creativity, and movement in meaningful ways.

These experiences embody a Morganton Day School education where dedicated teachers and an inquiry-based approach bring learning to life. We look forward to sharing these exciting moments with you and celebrating all that our students will accomplish during the second half of the year.

See you at Science Night,
Dr. Mikusa
Head of School
