To Have Homework or Not to Have Homework, That is the Question.

At Morganton Day School, we believe learning does not end when the school day does. While our classrooms are designed to provide rich, engaging, and meaningful learning experiences, regular practice at home can help students build confidence, develop independence, and strengthen the skills they are learning at school.

We do not think homework should simply be “more school.” Instead, at MDS we believe purposeful home practice provides students with an opportunity to reinforce, apply, and demonstrate what they are learning in the classroom. We are not advocating for hours of nightly homework. A 15-minute reading session, a few math problems, practicing multiplication facts, reviewing Spanish vocabulary, or completing a short writing activity can provide valuable reinforcement.

The goal is not to keep children busy. The goal is to strengthen learning. That's why homework should never be a battle. It should be fun, engaging, and build a habit of mind that will stay with our students for a lifetime.
