Enrichment

Morganton Day School is proud to offer four enrichment programs which not only encourages students to learn beyond the pages of a book, but also helps to incorporate topics which develops our children's curiosity to learn something new and fun.

  • The purpose of Physical Education at Morganton Day School is to develop and maintain healthy, enjoyable, and active lifestyles for all children. Our goal is to assist in the interpersonal and physical development of all students to their fullest potential.  This will be accomplished through their participation in all exercises and activities and the positive attitude that we all share.

JK3 – 4th Grade: Our lower school PE program aims to improve student’s motor skills, movement concepts, health related fitness and personal and social responsibility.

Students will participate in a variety of physical activities that support individual and team objectives. Physical Education is fully integrated through the elementary school classrooms International Baccalaureate Units of Inquiry; this includes participation in various activities.

We promote IB (International Baccalaureate) standards, designed to help students develop the knowledge, understanding, attitudes, and skills necessary to participate in today’s ever-changing world.

5th – 8th Grade: Our Middle School PE Program features a dynamic curriculum focused on fundamentals of lifetime and team sports. In Middle School Health, students are taught the different aspects of Health and Wellness. These include Mental and Emotional Health, Personal and Consumer Health, Interpersonal Communication and Relationships, and Nutrition and Physical Activity.

A creative and visual expression that is born out of the inspiration and imagination of the artist and is potentially guided by principles, techniques and influences. Art may be valued as an expression of humanity, culture, history, beauty, ideas, emotions, philosophy or spirituality.

  • When learning a language, it is important that students stay motivated while also having fun. At Morganton Day School, our goal is to achieve this by doing creative language activities that reinforce the language acquisition in class.

JK3 – 5th Grade: Spanish is integrated into Units of Inquiry allowing students to make connections between the language, cultures, and the world.

6th – 8th Grade: Students get prepared for Spanish 1. By the end of 8th grade, students have enough exposure to the language to be enrolled into Spanish 2 in High School.

  • General Music: JK3 – 5th Grade

    Band: 6th – 8th Grade

Music enables students to communicate in ways that go beyond their oral language abilities. It is a part of everyday life! Rhythm, patterns, and systems are found throughout our world. We firmly believe that music is a subject worthy of study in and of itself, and studies have proven that music enhances many other areas such as math, reading, and science. At MDS, students are immersed in a broad range of musical experiences. Students respond to music ideas individually and collaboratively. A wide variety of musical styles, instruments, and cultures construct the curriculum. Elementary and Middle School students discover the language of music. A stimulating and challenging curriculum is integrated through units of inquiry. Students also build confidence and musical ability by performing an annual school musical. A Middle School band elective is offered that usually includes percussion and wind instruments.
