MORGANTON DAY SCHOOL YOUNG AUTHOR WINNERS
Five students from Morganton Day School had winning entries for the Young Authors Project. Students from around the area were invited to submit original fiction or non-fiction writings in poetry or prose form.
The winners and the titles of their works are: Diana Barnard, “My Influence From Kira-Kira; Connor Brazinski, “The Escape”; Julia Randolph, “A Path With No End”; Sana Mohiuddin, “My Reading Obsession”; and Morgan Reid, “Do Not Disturb While Reading”.
The Young Authors Project is a program presented by the North Carolina Reading Association and sponsored by the local Blue Ridge Reading Council. The winning entries will now be entered in the state competition. Winning entries at the state level will be published in book form for the State Young Authors Celebration on April 20, 2008.
SCHOOL CELEBRATES IB AUTHORIZATION
Morganton Day School celebrated its authorization as an International Baccalaureate Organization, Primary Years Programme school. The celebration of this significant milestone in the school’s journey toward academic excellence was Wednesday, September 26, in Bennett Hall.
The program included a presentation of an IB Banner and certificate of authorization for the school as well as information about the IB Program. Guests had an opportunity to tour classrooms and hear students and teachers talk about their program of study. A reception and a KidZone area for the children concluded the celebration.
Morganton Day School received authorization by the International Baccalaureate Organization to offer the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for grades K-5 in July, making it one of only 11 PYP schools in North Carolina and one of 117 in the United States. Authorization to become an IB World School is an intensive process that typically takes two or more years and includes site visits by an IB authorization team. |
