Morganton Day School Holds First Reunion
Morganton Day School held its first all school reunion for alumni, parents & faculty on July 28, 2007. Over 50 people attended the event where the first alumni association was officially launched. Two of the Co-founding families were present to greet the alumni: Drs. Ita & Kevin Kilbride and Dr. & Mrs. Azmi Jarrah. Dr. Katie Furr Patten, 1981, from the inaugural class of 1978 gave the keynote address. Mr. Bain presented the 2007 annual report and announced that the school was recently notified by the International Baccalaureate Organization that the school has earned its authorization to implement the IB Primary Years Programme. Morganton Day School is one of only 11 schools in NC to have earned this prestigious curriculum distinction. The day concluded with a presentation by Lisa Antley, Director of Development, who outlined the goals for the new alumni association.
The inaugural gathering was enjoyed by all attendees. Multiple stories about the wonderful learning experiences were shared by each alumnus. Parents of alumni enjoyed recalling past field trips and volunteer activities. Former teachers, Hal Ball & Julia Thayer, attended the luncheon and were excited to see their former students. Also in attendance were Board of Trustees Chairperson, Buddy Fisher, and members, Sam Avery & Dr. Rudy Medina.
The alumna traveling the greatest distance was Bettina Schlosser, Bonn Germany. She attended the school in 1995 – 1997 while her family lived in Morganton. She graduated from a high school in New York and then moved back to Bonn. Bettina is currently working on a degree in Physical Therapy.
