MDS Founders’ Scholarship
Who Could Be a Founders’ Scholar?
Any new student entering 5th -8th grades for the 2012-2013 school year who is accepted for admission and demonstrates academic excellence and the potential to make a difference for the greater good. Students selected as Founders' Scholars will receive a grant of 75% tuition reduction ($6,712.50 value).
Qualification Requirements
Student must have an A average (3.5 or higher GPA in the 2011-12 school year) and be entering grades 5th – 8th for the 2012-2013 school year.
• Score in the 93rd percentile on an accepted standardized test or standard score at or above 125 on standardized IQ test.
• Parents/student must submit a MDS admissions application and Founders' Scholarship Application and all supporting documents by May 2, 2012.
• Student must attend a half-day school visit prior to April 29, 2012.
Finalists
Founders' Scholarship Finalists will be selected based on their admissions application, school visit, and supporting documents. Selected finalists will interview with the Founders’ Scholarship Committee and will be notified thereafter.
Founders’ Scholarship Important Dates
• March 1- May 2 Applicants complete and submit all application materials
• March 1- April 29 8:00-11:50 Attend a half day visit within this time period
• May 2- May 6 Finalists Selected
• May 6-13 Selected Finalists Interview with Selection Committee
• Saturday, May 12 Founders' Scholars Selected
• Monday, May 14 Founders' Scholars Notified

Application
REQUIRED APPLICATION MATERIALS AND PROGRAM INFORMATION
A. APPLICATIONS: Submit Founders’ Scholarship Application and MDS Admission Application by May 2, 2012 to MDS, 305 W. Concord Street, Morganton, NC 28655.
1. Founders’ Scholarship Application, Two Letters of Recommendation - Attach two letters of recommendation highlighting your values, integrity,
academic accomplishments, community service involvements, and interactions with peers and adults. One letter should be from a current teacher, and one should be from an adult (not a relative) who has observed your interactions with others in a non-academic setting such as athletics, church, camp, scouts, etc.
2. MDS Admission Application Note: The following must also be received by May 2, 2012.
a. School Records (official school transcript and one copy of latest report card)
b. 1 Teacher Recommendation Form
c. Student Questionnaire Form
d. $100 Application Fee- refundable if not selected
B. HALF-DAY APPLICANT SCHOOL VISIT: Applicants must attend a half-day school visit by April 29, 2012 and parents must attend a parent interview on the morning of the student visit. The School will contact the family to schedule the student visit and parent interview once the admissions application is complete.
C. ENROLL WITH $1,000 AWARD: Students who are eligible and complete the MDS Scholars application process on April 30, 2012 and are selected as finalists for the scholarship, will receive a one-time $1,000 tuition grant award for the 2012-2013 school year. Families can also apply for need-based financial aid for the 2012-2013 school year. Need based financial aid requires an additional application process which can be downloaded from www.morgantondayschool.com. Financial Aid Application is to be completed by May 2, 2012.
D. FINALIST SELECTION: Those selected as Founders' Scholars Finalists will be notified of a 20 minute scheduled interview with the Selection Committee.
E. AWARDS: Scholars will be selected based on their admissions application, school visit, and interview. The scholars will receive a tuition grant award of 75% tuition reduction. Assuming students maintain eligibility and families fulfill requirements, these awards will be ongoing through 8th grade. Families can also apply for need-based financial aid for the 2012-2013 school year.
F. AWARD ACCEPTANCE NOTIFICATION: All Founders' Scholars and Finalists will be notified by telephone of their tuition grant award on Monday, May 14, 2012.
G. EXPECTATION OF SCHOLARS: Scholars will be expected to maintain a 3.5 GPA, have exemplary conduct, and serve as
ambassadors for the school.
